My books range from Native American history to Young Adult (YA) adventure novels
to historical fiction to murder mysteries. AMAZING TENNESSEE and AMAZING NORTH CAROLINA (out
fall 2002) are state histories, but with a twist--a cross between "Ripley's
Believe it or Not" and Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story." The YA novel GROWING SEASON started when I spent a summer and fall helping an ag-pilot (a pilot who sprays fields) renovate a Stearman bi-plane in exchange for flying lessons. While I have yet to earn my pilot's license, that summer was one of the most incredible ones I've ever had. The ag-pilot was also into aerobatics and took me flying in some of those planes. I remember one afternoon after watching him do a hammerhead stall, I was drying off one of his other planes and thinking, "There's a book here somewhere." Katie appeared in my mind shortly after that. As time went on, other characters introduced themselves--more about them in the section on the book. Having a sense of curiosity about a disparate variety
of subjects is what has led me to write about such a myriad of topics. I also
have written about a dozen children's stories, which, one of these days, I intend to send out into the world to seek my
fortune...perhaps one of these days they may come out as a collection. |
